In Touch Massage
Are you struggling to relax? Do you feel breathless, stiff or need to press pause?
Having a sick child in hospital can have a profound and challenging impact on a parent's psychological wellbeing.
I have spent considerable hours sitting next to my son's bedside, often feeling anxious and unable to leave, and the night time sleeping on the pull down bed next to him. It's exhausting!
There is also significant evidence that parent's distress in hospital can impact on a child's ability to cope and cooperate with procedures.
My first-hand experience of staying for lengthy admissions was the inspiration behind In Touch Massage, a free massage service which aims to improve parental wellbeing whilst staying in hospital.
In Touch Massage has been supported by Melinda Edward, MBE Paediatric Psychologist, and
Guy's and St Thomas' Trust charity and is available for parents and carers who are staying with their children during their admission at Evelina London.
